Talented learners are surfaced through trusted school relationships, education-linked networks and aligned referral channels that understand both the context and the promise of the learner.

The bursary addresses the financial barriers that would otherwise stand between potential and access making participation in a top academic environment possible.

A bursary becomes something more meaningful through structured mentorship, guidance and personal-growth support a supported journey, not a single intervention.
Cadence
Quarterly mentor check-ins, ongoing academic support, sport and cultural development, and household engagement throughout the school year.

How are learners identified for The Legacy Project?
Learners are surfaced through trusted partner schools, school networks and education-linked referral channels. The platform works with people who know the learner’s context first-hand teachers, principals and community-rooted referrers rather than open public application.
What does the selection process involve?
Selection considers academic potential, character, household income context and platform fit. The aim is alignment between what the learner brings, what the bursary makes possible, and the long-term opportunity the platform can sustain. Beneficiary status is documented for B-BBEE recognition where applicable.
What does the bursary actually cover?
Bursary support typically covers school fees, boarding (where required), uniforms, books, transport, educational materials and other costs that participation in a top academic environment requires. The aim is to remove barriers that would otherwise place opportunity out of reach.
How long does a learner stay on the platform?
The platform is structured as a long-term developmental commitment, not a single-year intervention. A learner typically progresses from initial intake through senior school and into tertiary and early-career stages, with mentorship and developmental support sustained throughout.
What happens after Grade 12?
Outcomes are tracked through tertiary placement and early-career transition. Where appropriate, support continues into the tertiary stage through mentorship, guidance and access to networks. The platform’s long-term ambition includes ongoing alumni engagement.
How does the platform measure impact?
Outcomes are tracked across multiple dimensions: matriculation results and distinctions earned, sporting selections and academic representation, leadership roles, tertiary placement and the early-career trajectory of alumni. Termly progress reporting is provided to funders, with formal annual impact reporting at year-end.
Can funders direct support to a specific stage of the process?
Yes. Corporate funders and major donors can structure contributions to focus on specific elements of the platform from bursary fees through to mentorship and developmental programmes. The Partnership team works with each funder to align the structure to their specific objectives and reporting requirements.
